On August 27, 2024, Mr. Oshima, a member of Diet, visited Research Center for Structural Materials (RCSM), NIMS for his inspection tour. From RCSM, Dr. Takahito Ohmura, Dr. Kyoko Kawagishi and Dr. Kota Sawada introduced our research activities.
Dr. Ohmura explained about FMS alloys and welding technology used in seismic dampers that protect buildings from earthquake shaking, Dr. Kawagishi explained about the creation of more heat-resistant alloys (super heat-resistant alloys), which are essential for reducing CO2 emissions. And in front of the creep test chamber, Dr. Sawada explained the creep strength property evaluation of heat-resistant steel.
Mr. Oshima is very knowledgeable about structural materials and showed a deep understanding of the issues we are facing. At the same time, he was very interested in the world-class structural materials technology being created through joint research between NIMS and Japanese companies.
